I think we all live these fast-paced lives where we always have to be doing something.
We feel it is a waste of time to just sit and calm ourselves to reflect on the day or dedicate some time for the One who gives us everything. Why do we think we need to live this face-paced life? Time isn’t going to move any faster or slower, we will get what we need to have done on time, and we will get to our destination eventually.
Yesterday I got in my second car accident in two months as I rushed to work from teaching, clearly guilty of this face paced-life style of which I speak. I have found it really hard this semester to make that time during the day to slow down and stop to reflect and thank God for everything He does for me. Monday and Sunday are the only two days that I have truly given an hour to God to thank Him because I am at mass, but is that really all the time he deserves?
My mom told me yesterday after my car accident that it is better to arrive a little late then not arrive at all. I think we can not only relate this to our busy lives but also to our faith lives. Whether you are on the way to the gym or from a friend’s house, to from school or from work, slow down and think, “Have I thanked God—let alone given Him some time today?”
It is okay if it is late in the night when you realize, “Shoot I haven’t even thought of or thanked God for this awesome or really awful day.” Rather late than never, after all we are all working to make it to heaven, I hope, so it is better to say a prayer a little late everyday rather than never make it to this wonderful kingdom we strive to get into one day.
I know we are always constantly be given this challenge to slow down and think of and thank God, but will you really do it? After all, He gave his only son for us. He will always deserve more time then we can give him.
